Tradition
The Four of Coins (Pentacles) represents stability in the material or physical realm. Ben Dov has this one as representing tradition, and traditional institutions.
Stability. Solid material assets. Tradition, reputation and honor. Time-tested reliability. Established social institutions.
My own key phrase for this card is “let’s hang on to what we’ve got.”
I seldom read card reversals, especially with a Marseilles deck, but when this card turned up that way this morning, it piqued my curiosity. Here is what Ben Dov has to say on the matter.
Inverse: Conservatism, clinging to old and outdated patterns.
It reminded me of the wry old fire department credo “200 years of tradition unimpeded by progress.”
So let’s hang on to what we’ve got, and cherish our traditions – but let’s also not be held back by reflexive conservatism for its own sake.
