The Knight of Cups is the card of the “hopeless romantic.” He represents the poetic, idealistic, warm and sensitive. Unlike the Page of this suit, who bears his cup in an almost shy or tentative manner, this Knight wears his heart on his sleeve.
In readings, he indicates that his open hearted warmth is either present or called for.
He can also represent a message. Something new is coming along to stir one’s heart.
In the Waite Deck, the Knight of Cups is reminiscent of the Death card, so there is an echo of transition present.
It seems entirely fitting that this card would turn up on Maundy Thursday.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. – John 13:34-35
For me, this Knight symbolizes love in action. We can never have too much of that.
