Sacred Energy in Flux
The Hanged Man can be thought of as a depiction of the quest for sainthood.
There is a mystical tradition from India which attempts to interiorize life energy, and focus it at the point just between and above the eyebrows. This Kutastha point, or spiritual eye, is thought to be a reflection (or projection) of the gateway to the astral realm. Through energy work, breath work and meditation, we are drawn upward in consciousness to gain a state of superconsciousness (or Christ Consciousness). These techniques and theory (part of the discipline called Kriya Yoga) are taught by those in the lineage of Paramahansa Yogananda (principally the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, and the Self-Realization Fellowship and Ananda Fellowship in the United States).
Instead of going about his days as others do, with all of his energy directed downward and outward (toward bodily identification and the physical senses), the Hanged Man turns it all upside down, directing his energy toward the higher centers of the mind. The energy radiates forth in the nimbus surrounding his head.
The card turned up this morning as an encouragement to continue pursuing the path of Kriya.
