The Hanged Man is the card of paradox, sacrifice and surrender. It’s rife with the sort of delicious contradictions we often hear from sages and saints. He who saves his life will lose it, but he who loses his life will save it.
This card also hearkens back to The Fool. It reminds me that it’s alright to be unorthodox and let creativity just flow, unhampered by judgment and analysis and planning.
It can also be a prompt to take a fresh look at things from a new perspective.
Here’s a poem I wrote in August of 2019 about the Hanged Man card.
Inversion
cross of living wood
man suspended in time
serene saint
martyr
bound and unrestricted
in this hanging
the man is the tree
root moves to the top
at the first inversion
all is brighter now
release the expected pattern to see
the hidden pattern
of the Universe
fall into alignment
dive into resonance
surrender to harmony
For me, this card also represents meditation practice.
Dive deep within to find the light.
