The Ace of Wands is the card of life energy or spirit, in its most elemental form.
I have tended to think of the fire energy of the Wands suit in practical terms. Creative projects, expressions of passion, sexual potency and such come to mind.
When this card turned up this morning, it brought to mind a more primal or primordial, or perhaps subtle interpretation.
Much of yoga practice involves the development or direction of “prana.” Prana is the Sanskrit word for breath, but it has the deeper meaning of “life force” or spirit. In fact, even in English, our words “spirit” and “respiration” are related. “Inspire” means to breathe into. “Conspire” means to breathe together. “Expire” – well, you know what that means. 🙂
Some yogis believe that this vital life force enters the human body at the medula, and is distributed throughout the body from there via non-physical systems which are related to our physical circulatory and nervous systems.
So, this morning, for me, this Ace represents that prana, and reminds me of the importance of regular spiritual practice to bring the energy in and to keep the energy moving as it should.
