The Six of Pentacles turned up this morning to remind me of the need to share from the heart.
I spent a little time volunteering last evening doing outreach to the homeless in our community. I try to do this each month, and also prepare shelter meals a couple times each month.
Like the merchant depicted on the card, I think that I have been weighing out how much to share. The outreach usually takes about an hour, and before last night’s session I got an email about a change in schedule and process, and am ashamed to say that I was a little irritated. It was going to take a little more time than I had planned, and involve a little more effort driving around our town.
I was begrudging people who have next to nothing that extra half-hour of my time, when I had nothing else planned and nothing else valuable or pressing to do. One unplanned half an hour this entire month, and I was grumbling at the prospects.
This card says “Set aside the scales and give what you can, from the heart, with joy and gratitude.”
I’ll do my best to carry this sentiment in my heart and mind.
